Gold Necklace

Men and women have been adorning their bodies with jewellery, including necklaces, since the Stone Age. Back then they were made of bones, stones, shells, and the teeth of animals strung on a thread or a strip of leather. In fact “beads” like this were the first objects worn around the neck even among the ancient Egyptians. Eventually the chain was developed as a means to hold the decorative beads and ornaments that they wore around their necks. The Phoenicians had chains of gold that symbolized the honour and power of the person who wore it.

The use of gold to make chains, chokers, and wide collars set with precious stones has been noted among the ancient Egyptians and the early Hebrews. The Hebrews used them for ornamentation as well as to denote some official distinction. Gold chains and collars were used frequently in the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth centuries. Many of the early kings of England like Richard II, Henry VII, and Henry VIII are depicted wearing ornate collars of gold set with jewels. This is the time period when chains also became more widely used to display ornaments or as a badge of office.

Today, necklaces are still worn and often for reasons similar to those hundreds of years ago. Personal adornment is probably the biggest reason, but many people who buy expensive gold necklaces adorned with precious stones are, in a way, showing their station in life just as the Egyptians, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and royalty of Great Britain did.

The term “gold necklace” brings to mind a wide range of possibilities. For years, gold chains have been popular and are often worn unadorned or with a simple pendant. Many people like an unfussy gold chain hung with a religious medal or a plain cross. A man might give his wife or girlfriend a glittering rope chain necklace with a single heart pendant or two hearts linked together. He may even choose a chain made of gold heart-shaped links. No man can go wrong with the choice of a wheat chain or other style chain and a diamond pendant.

Station necklaces are a simple gold chain with gold beads located at even intervals along the length of the chain. A white gold chain with yellow gold beads is beautiful version of the station necklace.

Gold Stampato necklaces are made up of thick and perfectly symmetrical links. The term is Italian and is used to refer to metal jewellery that has been mechanically die-struck or stamped. As with any gold necklace, you can find Stampato in 18 and 22-carat gold. This style of necklace is particularly lovely in a combination of yellow and white gold.

Gold chains are probably the most classic version of a gold necklace. They come in so many styles. One example is the rope chain with a balanced weave of box chain of yellow and white gold. Byzantine chains, which originated in the Byzantine Empire, are made up of many loops of gold woven together. Each loop passes through four other loops. These chains can be much wider than many other style chains and are definitely one of the most striking in appearance.
